At last week’s Council meeting, Council approved a development plan overlay for land at 35 Warragul Road in the Residential Growth Area (North West Korumburra) (DPO8) provisions of the South Gippsland Planning Scheme. The DPO8 was applied at the same time that 3.83 ha of the land was rezoned to General Residential Zone (GRZ) by Amendment C96.

At the 22 April 2020 Council Meeting, Council endorsed the COVID-19 Community Support Package (CSP) of up to $2M to support the South Gippsland Community and Businesses to remain Healthy, Connected and Innovative.

Nicholls Road Mardan has been closed, adjacent to Mayalls Road, to all through traffic due to a culvert failure resulting in significant scouring under the road pavement. The scouring has produced a cavity over four metres deep that is slowly increasing in size. The problem has been assessed by a Council Engineer who determined that the cavity presented an unacceptable risk to the safety of road users. The road will remain closed until the culvert can be replaced and the road repaired.

The Minister for Planning has approved Amendment C115 to the South Gippsland Planning Scheme.

Council would like to commend the Mirboo North & District Community Foundation on its plans to build a modern and spacious medical clinic and allied health facility in Mirboo North. The new facility will ensure that the residents of Mirboo North and surrounds can have continued access to GP bulk billing and health services for decades to come.

South Gippsland Shire Council has awarded COVID-19 Businesses Grants to 82 successful applicants. The business grants aimed to assist shopfront businesses in South Gippsland that had experienced a downturn due to COVID-19. Successful applicants received a one-off payment of $1,000 (ex GST) to spend on essential business fees, services and/or materials.

On 27 March 2019, the Council passed a resolution, in which it recorded its satisfaction that there existed a nuisance of the kind alleged by the complainants, but that the nuisance existed only intermittently. The March Resolution recorded the Council’s opinion, under s 62(3)(b) of the Wellbeing Act, that the matter was better settled privately, and identified several methods available for doing so.

Today I chose to extend my otherwise rushed lunch break to sit on our veranda and soak in the welcoming August sun. It was a picture-perfect day, the first for a long while.
