The South Gippsland BMX Club has become an affiliated club with BMX Australia after working on the rebuilding of the track over the last two years. Nathan Evans, the club president says the club is now open for business and anyone interested in joining the club can do so by signing up on the BMX Australia website. https://bmxaustralia.com.au/

The BMX website contains heaps of information on the sport and readers can subscribe to a weekly newsletter. Memberships are available for various ages and abilities and seem to range between $32 and $99 plus fees. 4year old and under can join as mini wheelers, there are 4-month licences, open, and a volunteer category which is free to join.

Once a member has joined, they can participate in all official club activities. Currently, covid-19 has limited activities, but it is hoped the club will have its first AGM next month-new members are welcome.

Nathan says the track rebuild wouldn’t have been possible without the support of many local businesses and individuals. Checking out the club’s facebook page it shows that some notable locals did heaps of work supplying materials and work to build the track. Mike Allen / Allen’s Contracting supplied 7 tonnes of gravel, Brenton Williams of BJ’s Earthworks loaned equipment and Dale Carruthers an excavator. The track is not quite complete but is nearly so and represents an enormous effort and vision from those involved to bring this excellent facility for the local community.

BMX Racing is seriously a tremendous sport, its very family orientated and can take you all over the country at an affordable price. It’s fun and exciting, you can turn up and just have a go for fun or take it seriously and aim to win a national title.

And it all starts at your local club so if this sounds like fun to you head over to their Facebook page and give Nathan a call.
