Paul working on a customers bike

Great Southern Ride is an eBike and bike hire service recently establishing in Leongatha a short distance from the start of the rail trail opposite Horticulture Park. The joint owners are Amanda Godridge and Paul Zezula. Amanda has ties to Leongatha as her father used to be a Shire Engineer so when the idea came to them to establish the venture it took little time to come to the decision and make the move.

Luckily, a suitable shop location was available at the start of the rail trail and with a long and thin shop they have their bikes lined up along one wall and at the rear of the shop is the work area where Paul repairs customers bikes. Paul explains how easy the eBikes are to ride and how the hills seem easy but with a nearly flat rail trail one can ride along at quite a comfortable speed with minimal effort on the pedals.

The eBike is powered by an electric motor that sits out of the way on the frame. The eBike comes with a pouch for riders to slip their mobile phone into and a pack rack carries items on the rear. Also included in the kit is a bike lock, emergency repair kit, and a helmet. Riders can phone Paul if they require assistance and one-way trips can even be arranged where pick-ups or drop offs are arranged to allow for more options for riders.

The Great Southern Rail Trail (GSRT) is 72km long and goes between Leongatha and Port Welshpool. Although it could be ridden in a day it is best suited to short sections as day trips so as to fully explore the adjacent townships and scenery along the way.

Great Southern Ride can assist with route suggestions and where good places are located for food and views.

The eBikes are also available for sale so you have the option of trying before you buy which is an excellent way to see what they feel like before committing the funds. At around $2100 these represent good value for eBikes.

Shop hours are 9am to 5pm 7 days a week. Amanda and Paul look forward to seeing you on your next day out on the rail trail.
