Getting into Action to Support Regional Creatives

Eight visionary Councils in regional Victoria have come together to support their creative communities via a collaborative program ArtsACTION, launching 1 December 2020. ArtsACTION, facilitated by not-for-profit Jumpleads NFP, provides inspiration and professional development for artists and creatives to activate career pathways, broaden networks and build market reach. The free program offers a six-part email resource pack, Zoom workshops, and access to a growing supportive network. The workshops cover topics such as being market ready, working together effectively and digital communities.

Participating Councils include: East Gippsland Shire Council; Wellington Shire Council; South Gippsland Shire Council; Bass Coast Shire Council; Murrindindi Shire Council; Mitchell Shire Council; Strathbogie Shire Council; and Greater Shepparton City Council. These Councils are keen to offer this practical support for their artists, particularly at such a crucial and challenging time. “Local Arts sector businesses, organisations, and individual artists have been hit exceptionally hard through COVID-19 restrictions.

Broadscale closures and complex and prohibitive operational guidelines mean that many are struggling to continue operations” says Mary Sullivan, Arts Development Officer, South Gippsland Shire. “We are excited to join this collective approach, enabling us to provide for our Arts sector the opportunity to connect, reskill, and help prepare for the next phase of their creative endeavour.” Jumpleads Director and program facilitator Sharon Seyd has been working in the creative industries sector for over 35 years. She recognises the need for artists to have relevant career skills and the practical support required to foster viable practices.

“This program came about through recognising that creatives are an often under- resourced, yet highly valuable sector,” says Sharon. “Through our experience and previous programs, we have found most artists and creatives want greater opportunities for exposure. Many need support in development of skills, methods, and frameworks to maximise their potential.” Emerging or professional artists, arts workers, and people involved in community arts or creative industry fields are invited to participate. It’s particularly relevant for creatives looking to grow their career, build their business, step up their organisation, or connect with other creatives across Victoria and beyond.

ArtsACTION is FREE to participate and will be delivered entirely online from 1 December 2020 to 30 June 2021. For more information go to: https://popupart.com.au/artsaction
