How Council conducts its meetings under Covid19

South Gippsland Council not planning to reopen Council meetings in November

With the relaxing of covid19 restrictions in November when 40 people are allowed in a dining establishment Council was asked when it planned to reopen its monthly live in person Council meetings. Usual numbers at a Council meeting would be around 10 maximum unless there was a contentious topic on the agenda.

A Council spokesperson said, “We are planning for a live-streamed Meeting in November and continuing to evaluate the situation on a month-by-month basis.

So, a virtual meeting only, but the spokesperson went on to say, “we are hopeful of being in a position to resume Meetings in Chambers from December or February (given that there is no Meeting in January).”

Since Council went into the virtual world public presentations have plummeted, questions to Council have dropped to negligible and spin has spun up. During these times, Council chose to further reduce the ability of members of the public to asking questions in Council meetings, released a less than accurate customer satisfaction survey report, and an annual report that was sent to the Minister with several inaccuracies a month before it was accepted at the Council meeting where some of those inaccuracies were addressed.
