Proposed 4 Year Council Plan-Administrators Speak
Administrator Zahra started by stating the main Strategies of the previous Councillor group. Then he went on to claim that the proposed plan was not just words. That it was a cleaner, clearer policy document and that it would provide greater direction to staff, the team, and the people.

This would be a “fresh start for the organisation” he said before adding that “we welcome good ideas that will add to what we have put out”.

Zahra further elaborated on this theme by stating that “we want broad community participation, engagement, not just from, if you like, the usual suspects”. “This needs to be owned by the local community and that’s why we are seeking their participation on this important document”

Administrator Brown said the following. “The values and
vision statements are critical. Values are not the responsibility of any one
group, its not the responsibility of staff, Councillors, or the responsibility
of ratepayers. They are the responsibility of everyone and the key to this
document and capacity”.

Brown further elaborated by saying, “what we set out to
achieve is that we have a unity of purpose and that unity of purpose is driven
by a common set of values”.
He went on to close his speech by saying “so I
would urge people when they analyse this document to sign up to the values, to
sign up to the vision, and to sign up to the strategic objectives. Because this
is the case, we’ll only achieve it if we’re all in together and it’s not just
the staff, it’s not just the elected Councillors (sic). Its everybody and I urge
everybody to take a keen interest in this document, to consider what the
response to it is and they wholeheartedly sign up to the document that Council
adopts”
