The Iconic Riverview Hotel in Tarwin Lower

New Life on The Horizon for an Old Girl.

Rumours are flying around the vicinity faster than the speed of light. An ‘Under Contract’ sticker emanates strikingly from a For Sale sign, suggesting the iconic Riverview Hotel, with its extraordinary fireplace, is about to welcome fresh blood.

This historic building overlooking the Tarwin River, was first granted a hotel licence in 1896, and has since embraced the progression of country trends and ample publicans. During recent decades, the hotel was famous for showcasing live music following hearty, country meals. Patrons flocked from far and wide to see their favourite bands.

Simultaneously, the rustic, covered deck was a welcoming scene, especially in summer during warm, weekend afternoons. A chance to relax and socialise after a laborious week, while enjoying acoustic gigs. If the Riverview could talk, it would voice amazing, diverse stories of pleasure and pain, love, and loss. However, these tales remain silent, etched forever within its walls.

The establishment was sadly forced to shut its doors a few months ago, due to the wrath of covid-19. It sleeps patiently, beckoning to be awoken. So, who will be the new publican? A local? A frequent holiday maker? Perhaps someone completely new to the area longing for a rural/coastal lifestyle.

Whoever it may be, they will breathe new life into the deserving, grand, old lady, and will shower the endearing town of Tarwin Lower and surrounds with new momentum.

Excitement is in the air!
