Editorial May 8th, 2020-The First Week
Well, it has been only one week since launching the newspaper and we have certainly been kept busy!
The response so far, with next to no advertising, has been wonderful. We want to thank all the contributors for material they sent in and as promised in our guidelines, not one article has been refused. We are not wanting any one area or individual, or group to “dominate” the site but that does not seem to be happening and as more niche areas get filled in as new contributors come on board that will even out anyway as we progress.
It has been a pleasure to read, put through the spell-checker, and then make up the post for the website. Please pass the details of the newspaper onto others, share this and we will end up with a fantastic community asset in our wonderful community of South Gippsland.
The news on Corona Land appears to be one of slowly emerging from the restrictions but the theme I am seeing in articles and in talking to people around the Shire is that people are seriously thinking about changing how they not only live but how they play.
Maybe this disaster will turn out to have a silver lining if we change some of the ways we live here on this planet.
Time will tell.
On a more day to day matter, anyone who is thinking of submitting to the Council s223 process on the budget and plan needs to act quickly as the deadline is fast approaching. See the article
I was interviewed by ABC radio Gippsland on May the 8th and the interviewer asked an interesting question-when do we publish! Well, it is online so articles go up as received and processed so that can be anytime. So, is it a daily? No. But we will send out a weekly newsletter on Friday’s to subscribers notifying readers of some of the new stories received in the previous week. We are adding many many more stories each week than notified in the newsletters so do not forget to check back regularly.
