COMMUNITY SUPPORT PACKAGE PROJECT STATUS UPDATE REPORT
At the 22 April 2020 Council Meeting, Council endorsed the COVID-19 Community Support Package (CSP) of up to $2M to support the South Gippsland Community and Businesses to remain Healthy, Connected and Innovative. Initiatives under this project are intended to:
• Provide targeted support and stimulus activities specific to the South Gippsland community and economy;
• Provide relief to businesses, community groups, families and individuals suffering financial or social distress; and
• Aid with recovery and work towards restoration of the community and South Gippsland economic life provide vital economic, social, cultural, health and wellbeing outcomes.
The following programs have been implemented to date within Phase One:
Initiative: Flu Vaccinations Subsidised
Budget: $25,900 Status: In progress till Oct 2020 # Flu vaccinations Mar-Jul 2020 – 816 over 13 sessions
Initiative: Fee Waiver – Business Fees/Permits Reduced business registration fees and permit waivers – 50% Refund 2020 fees, 50% rebate on 2021 fees
Budget: $184,000 Status: In progress – on track 2021 Registration Fee invoices due for issue Oct 20. Those businesses who opted for a credit will receive a credit on this invoice, as well as 50% reduction 2021 Business registration fees. 600 Businesses will receive refunds and rebates. As at end of Jul 34% of businesses refunds have been processed – 49 requesting a credit and 77 requesting a refund.
Initiative: Fee Waiver – Victorian Landfill Levy Waiver of fee increase for garbage levy charges
Budget: $150,000 Status: Complete – Included in 20/21 Rates Notices to be issued mid Aug 2020
Initiative: Community Information Brochure Development and distribution of 2000 brochures on available support services
Budget: $13,000 Status: Complete June 2020 at no – $0 cost DHHS covered the cost of initial production and printing Planned for reprint in Sep 20 at a cost of $3000
Initiative: Community Restarter/Sanitiser package Provide 200-300 community groups with a package comprising Personal Protective Equipment (e.g. hand sanitiser and dispenser stand)
Budget: $30,000 Status: In progress 30 packs have been distributed to date
Initiative: Fee Waiver – Caravan Park Annual Permit Holders Fee waiver for Apr-Aug 2020 annual site fees for Council owned (3) caravan parks and impacting 41 annual site permit holders
Budget: $53,915 Status: In progress To be reassessed in Sep 2020 41 Annual permit holders will receive relief
Initiative: COVID19 – Business Grants Established a business support Grants program to assist local businesses
Budget: $300,000 Status: In progress First round of grants opened for applications 13th July to 31 July 83 businesses have successfully received a $1000 grant. Criteria to be reviewed for future grant applications.
Initiative: COVID19 Community Support Grants One-off grants to support not-for profit organisations/community Service Providers to extend services to individuals to maintain social connections
Budget: $100,000 Status: In progress Grant period opened 1st August till funds exhausted
Initiative: COVID19 Community Group Grants One off grants providing support for Community Groups to respond to and recover from the impacts of COVID-19
