Anyone Up For A New Challenge?
The inviting Tarwin Lower Bowls Club Inc. embraces community gatherings and family fun, while playing lawn bowls in a stunning, rural location. After pleasurable bowling experiences, mesmerising, ever-changing sunsets take centre stage to complete the day.
Lawn bowls is a low impact, therapeutic exercise promoting fitness, coordination, skill, confidence, and community connectedness. Bowls is played for the challenge of competition, for personal, outdoor enjoyment and for social interaction.
The Tarwin Lower Bowls Club, proudly, generously sponsored by numerous, local businesses, presently accommodates approximately sixty members. Men’s competition has already commenced this year and enthusiastic participants meet every Saturday at 12.40pm.
The popular, mixed barefoot bowls will recommence on Tuesday February 2nd at 6pm. Everyone, including children capable of trying their hand at the game, are welcome to attend this leisurely, weekly competition. Many laughs are promised, while plenty of food and drink will be on offer, such as a delicious barbeque. For the newcomer, barefoot bowls is a fun way to familiarise yourself with this skilful activity as you socialise with fellow players.
A mothers’ bowls group is also planned, complete with creche facilities run by minders bearing working with children checks. This allows mums healthy, entertaining time-out, while connecting and supporting one another.
An introductory tour of the club is offered each Friday afternoon at 3pm. Thereafter, bowling practice sessions, called ‘Roll-up’, are facilitated from 4-6pm. Coaching is abundantly available if you’re new to the precision sport and would like some instruction.
The Tarwin Lower Bowls Club facilities and surrounds are beautifully maintained and nurtured by club members, who graciously volunteer their time. There’s ample car parking, while the spacious club house exudes a welcoming, warm ambiance and a fully stocked bar. Drinks are sold at reasonable prices, assuring no one will ever go thirsty!
These wonderful premises also host external events, such as birthday and Christmas parties or even wakes. Just recently the Venus Bay Life Saving Club, with approximately sixty-five patrons, held their Christmas fund-raiser at the club rooms, proving profitable for both organisations and an enjoyable evening had by all.
If you are new to the area and wish to connect with local friends, please come along and be welcomed by friendly faces. Alternatively, if anyone is searching for a new challenge to broaden their horizons, have a go at lawn bowls. It may just be your calling!
The Tarwin Lower Bowls Club is situated on the Walkerville Road, 550 metres from the roundabout at Tarwin Lower. If you wish to find out more information, please contact the club’s president, Carol Giroud, on 0408 562 488.
