An Experience To Treasure.
Between April and November each year, Australia’s southern and eastern coastlines blossom with magnificent displays of playful, acrobatic, humpback whales.
Having fed on krill during summer in Antarctic waters, these beautiful, majestic creatures begin their migration north, traveling up to 10,000 kilometres in search of subtropical waters to feed, mate and give birth.
Gippsland has the pleasure of viewing humpback whales typically around the early stages of their long journey. This year numerous sightings were enjoyed by locals off the Venus Bay beach. It’s a matter of ‘in the right place at the right time’.
Various whale watching cruises are available near us in South Gippsland and are highly recommended for an absolutely amazing, memorable experience. One to tick off the bucket list, for sure!
The sheer size of these animals leaves a lasting impression and one is left in awe of their good nature and playful, impressive interactions. A truly magical, surreal encounter to treasure, up close and personal.
Covid-19 times are unfortunately restricting Victorians at present, however, for future reference, whale watching cruises can be found all along the southern and eastern coasts. In fact, the ultimate springboard in QLD to experience this annual attraction is Hervey Bay, which has recently claimed the title as the world’s first Whale Heritage site.
One of the more accommodating whale watching cruise vessels in Hervey Bay is The Whalesong, whose proprietors have graciously supplied us incredible photos.
These profound, remarkable whales are a ‘must see’ at least once in a lifetime. This is a goose bumps-provoking experience, which can be truly life-changing.
