Launch of a New Newspaper
Well, it has taken 6 months but finally we have a launch. The first Newspaper to be launched in the area in a long time, I guess.
When this idea began late last year, it came about because of the perceived bias in certain sections of the local press. Important issues appeared to be selectively ignored and not addressed by fair and balanced journalism.
This Newspaper is an attempt to change the model by which the press operates in this region. We hope to offer impartial and unbiased reporting. Making it clear where the boundaries between factual reports and opinions lie and keeping to the highest standards.
We have set this online Newspaper to source material from residents and readers directly rather than have an editorial team of owners decide what is written and what side of the argument or debate is given the weight of editorial opinion.
There is a section on the Newspaper Site that allows contributors to send in articles directly along with images. These will be vetted to ensure they comply with the Newspaper policies and guidelines and then will be published. To be clear, editorial vetting of these does not mean only if the editor agrees with the article. If an article is fair, balanced, and supported factually it is acceptable and if it is not, it is not acceptable. Of course, anyone who wants to write up their opinion is still able to do so via a letter to the editor. Please check out the guidelines on our site.
The aim is that this Newspaper will be including “crowd-sourced” content from residents to cover whatever is newsworthy to the readers. If you live in an area or are a member of a group of any kind, please feel free to contribute so all can read of the efforts and goings on in your area/group.
A special thanks to those who have already signed up to volunteer their time to supply material for the readers. You can find some of these listed on the About Page along with spaces for others yet to come forward. Will this be you? Others have sent in material asking that we write it up for them-no problems.
Being a new site, I am sure their will be some bugs here or there. Hopefully, none, but please let us know if you find one!
We have spent a lot of time and effort developing this site. Please share and tell others of our existence and help us to make this a useful resource for the community.
