Council awarded contracts to three companies to fix the landslips which occurred in South Gippsland Shire over 12 months ago in September 2019. The three slips were located on Wild Dog Valley Road near Amiets Road, at Mount Eccles Road near Mount Eccles, and on Griggs Road in Hallston.
A public meeting in Hallston Hall organised by local residents at the time requested the attendance of the then Acting CEO Mr Bryan Sword but Mr Sword did not attend.

Residents were angry Council would not discuss how they could travel in the area with concrete blocks placed on the road by the slip preventing travel in the case of an emergency. A compromise was later reached by Council whereby locals could travel that section of road whilst Council went about the process of approving the repair works.

Contracts were awarded to two companies to do the works at the Council meeting on September 23rd, 2020. MACA a large civil engineering construction company won two contracts to repair the Wild Dog Valley and Mount Eccles slips whilst the local boy “BJ Earthworks” won the Griggs Road slip.

This continues the regular winning of big contracts by this local Leongathian company. Another $576,635 in the coffers and total since 2018 start to around $6.8 million. Well done “BJ” and keep up the good work.
